    Saturday Evening Mixed

    Last updated: 10-Apr-2026

    DESCRIPTION
The Saturday Evening Mixed League is a fixed team recreational curling league. All games will be at 7:30pm on Saturdays.

    Team Rosters / Gender Rules
This is a mixed curling league. All teams should have two female and two male players. The male and female players must play alternating positions in the team’s delivery rotation. If you use a spare, the spare must be the same gender as the player they are replacing,

    Exceptions:
      1. When playing with 3 players (2 males and 1 female, or 2 females and 1 male), the genders do not need to alternate but one female player must play either skip or vice, and one male player must play either skip or vice (i.e. teams can have a rotation of FMM or MFF).
      2. One female and three males are permitted if an exception is granted by the league coordinator. Exceptions will be based on years of curling experience and will only be given to less experienced teams. The female player must throw third or skip’s rocks. Spares must be female until there are 2 females playing on the team.
      3. One male and three females are permitted if an exception is granted by the league coordinator based on years of curling experience. No restrictions on throwing order. Spares may be of either gender.

    LEAGUE SETUP
    • Maximum of 10 teams.
    • Round 1: Regarless of the number of teams, Round 1 will be a seeding round.  Each team will play against all of the other teams in the league one time each.
    • Round 2: If either 8 or 10 teams are registered for Saturday Evening Mixed, the league will be divided into A and B divisions with 4 or 5 teams each. If fewer than 8 teams register or if there is an uneven number of teams, all teams will play in the same division.  If there are two divisions, teams will be divided into A and B divisions based on their point totals from Round 1.
    • Rounds 2,3,4: Teams will play a round robin against all other teams in their division. If there are two divisions, at the end of each round, the bottom team in Group A will be demoted to Group B and the top team in Group B will be promoted to Group A. Promotions / demotions will be based only on the points accumulated in the current round-robin and not the season standings.

    Points are awarded as follows:
Games in the A division will be 10pts for a win, 5pts for a tie, 3pts for a loss, 0 pts for a forfeit

Games in the B division will 8pts for a win, 4pts for a tie, 2pts for a loss, 0 pts for a forfeit

Please report all FORFEITS to the league rep as the standings will need to be manually adjusted.
Skips/Vices are responsible for recording the win/loss/tie on the CVCC website following conclusion of each game.

    5th/6th NAMED TEAM MEMBER
Teams may identify a 5th and 6th team member once the team has four paid-in-full members.
The named 5th and 6th team member can be anyone that has paid club league or spare fees.
The named 5th and 6th team member can play any position but the gender throwing order rules must continue to be respected.
The named 5th and 6th team member CANNOT be a member of another team in this league..
    SPARING
Everyone who has already registered for a league or joined as a "Spare Member" can spare in this league. "Youth Members" must be 14 or older to spare in this league.
You can use up to 3 spares as long as one of your regular team members is in the lineup. The gender rules in regards to throwing order must continue to be respected when bringing in spares.
A spare must throw the same (or lower) rocks than the player they are replacing.  However, a spare CANNOT throw skip’s rocks.
Spares cannot be used by a team until the team has four paid-in-full members unless an exception has been given by the league coordinator.
Teams looking for a spare should refer to the spares list at https://cityviewcurling.ca/index.php/member-s-home/league-information/sub-lists

    Awards

The team with the most points at the end of the season will be awarded the “Saturday Evening Trophy” for best record for the season. The names of the team members will be engraved on the trophy for posterity.

    Byes

The inclusion of bye weeks for teams will be dependent on the number of team that register for the league. Byes will only be available to teams if an uneven number of teams register for the season, or if there are more than 8 teams.

Bye Requests will be assigned on a first come first served basis.

    BELL RULE
The bell will sound at 9:30pm.
The bell signals that you are in your final end. No extra ends or tie breakers.
For the sake of courtesy to the bar staff and ice techs, please do not start another end after 9:20pm if one team is down by more than 4 points.

An end is deemed to have completed once the final rock of the end has been thrown and has crossed the near hog line. Use the countdown clock on the far end of the ice to keep track of your remaining time until the bell.
