    Monday Open Doubles League

    Last updated: 15-Nov-2024

    DESCRIPTION

For curlers of all experience levels, Monday Open Doubles consists of fixed, two-player open teams. Offering a balance of recreational-to-competitive play across 3 divisions and 3 weekly draws starting at 7:00pm, doubles is a fast-paced game that demands energy and attentiveness of all participants.

This is what makes doubles so fun and interesting! With only two players, everyone has to call their own line, or choose to get up and sweep your own stones. Sweeping alone means switching sides can be a real advantage, and even skips need to be able to judge weight and sweep those stones to the button!

It is a well-rounded game that gets everyone involved in the strategy, is challenging to even the most experienced curlers, while also being an excellent way to develop the skills for those newer to the sport of curling.

    • Etiquette as is applicable to all other leagues. Players are encouraged to be courteous, be helpful and alert, and try your best to be respectful of pace and not delay the game.

    Points will be weighted across the 3 divisions as follows;

    • 0 points for a LOSS

    Divisions C & D

At the conclusion of Round 3, the top team by overall points will be awarded the league trophy. All Monday Doubles teams will be provided the opportunity to participate in the Open Doubles Championship over the last 3 weeks of the season (Mar 25th, Apr 8th and Apr 15th)

Skips are responsible for recording the win/loss/tie on the CVCC website following conclusion of the game.

Link to League Bulletin Board. (Google Sheets will be updated throughout the season to include FAQs, dates & deadlines, etc.)

    3rd NAMED TEAM MEMBER
Teams may identify a 3rd team member as an alternate once the team has two paid-in-full members. Alternates can be anyone that has paid club fees – this includes someone that has paid spare fees only (but excludes a social membership). Alternates can play in any position.

    SPARING
Everyone who has already registered for a league or joined as a "Spare Member" can spare in this league. "Youth Members" must be 14 or older to spare in this league. Non-members of CVCC can spare (refer to https://cityviewcurling.ca/index.php/member-s-home/other/frequently-asked-questions/691-can-non-members-spare).

Spares cannot be used by a team until the team has two paid-in-full members.

No more than one spare is allowed per game.

Teams looking for a spare should refer to the spares list at https://cityviewcurling.ca/index.php/member-s-home/league-information/sub-lists

    BELL RULE

Bell will sound after 65 minutes of play to indicate your last end of play. Do not begin another end after that bell sounds. In Doubles Play, an end is deemed to have started once the positioned stones have been placed.

    FUNDRAISING

Along with other evening leagues, this league uses a 50/50 draw to fund a joint year-end banquet (dinner and prizes) and maintaining league awards. Additional prizes are occasionally purchased through the year.
