We have house league curling, which is held at City View Curling Club on Wednesday nights at 5PM. In addition, a number of the members participate in bonspiels hosted by local curling clubs and groups. As well the OBCC participates in the Ontario Blind Curlers Association's (OBCA) provincial championship, both at a recreational and competitive level. The club that wins the competitive pool of this championship then represents Ontario at the National Vision Impaired Curling Championship, in which the OBCC has participated on a number of occasions.

    DESCRIPTION
Saturday Mixed League (SML) is a fixed team social curling league for recreation.  This season’s game times for the Saturday Mixed league are at 3:00pm, 5:15pm and 7:30pm (three draws). Intention for the season is to enjoy getting on the ice and playing.
To allow more future teams into the SML, the definition of "Mixed" has been changed compared to previous years. You must now have at least ONE of each gender on your team (compared to two, preveiously).
Two female and two male players. The male and female players shall play alternate positions in the team’s delivery rotation. If you use a spare, the spare must be the same gender as the player they are replacing,
      1. Three players (2 males and 1 female, or 2 females and 1 male).  The throwing order must always alternate between male and female players. No spare permitted until there is a 4th paid player. If you use a spare, the spare must be the same gender as the player they are replacing,
      2. One female and three males are permitted if an exception is granted by the league coordinator. Exceptions will be based on years of curling experience. The female player must throw third or skip’s rocks. Spares must be female until there are 2 females in the team.
      3. One male and three females are permitted if an exception is granted by the league coordinator based on years of curling experience. No restrictions on order of throw. Spares may be of either sex.
      4. Four females with combined years of curling experience less than 15 years; any exception would be granted by the league coordinator. Spares may be of either sex.
      5. Four males with combined years of curling experience less than 15 years; any exception would be granted by the league coordinator. Spares must be female until there are 2 females in the team.
      6. Any other combinations not mentioned above? Contact the League coordinator for discussion / exceptions.

    LEAGUE SETUP
    • The league has three divisions for the 2025-2026 season. Group A has 7 teams, Group B has 7 teams, and Group C has 9 teams.
    • Round 1, every team plays every team in their division + one bye.

      • For R1W8 and R1W9, Groups A and B will have an additional game against tears in their division or crossover depending ont the standings at that point
    • At the end of Round 1, the bottom two teams in Group A will be demoted to Group B while Group B will promote the top two, and the bottom three teams in Group B will be demoted to Group C while Group C will promote the top three.
    • Round 2, every team plays every team in their division + one bye.
    • Starting in R2W8:
      • The top 5 teams in Group A will be assigned “A Flight” and start Playoff Qualification where they’ll play every team once + one bye (on the “bye” week, they’ll be a potential “fun” game with another team). The “A Finals” will have first play second, while third plays fourth for bronze.
      • The bottom two teams in Group A and the top four in Group B will be assigned “B Flight” and start Playoff Qualification where they’ll play every team once. The “B Finals” will have first play second, while third plays fourth for bronze, and 5th plays 6th as a consolation.
      • The bottom 3 teams in Group B will be assigned “C Flight” and start a mini-Playoff Qualification where they’ll play every team once + one bye (on the “bye” week, they’ll play a fun game with another team). There will also be one team playing a DOUBLE HEADER. The results carry over to PQW3.
    • Starting in PQW3:
      • The bottom 3 teams of Group B (with their carried over results) will play the top 3 teams of Group C once. This group of 6 will be assigned “C Flight”. The top 3 of Group C will use the most recent results of Round 2 against other C teams as its qualification games. The “C Finals” will have first play second, while third plays fourth for bronze, and 5th plays 6th as a consolation.
      • The bottom 6 teams in C will be assigned “D Flight” and be divided into two groups of 3 teams, where every team will play against the 3 teams in the other group and using previous games if necessary to break ties. The top team in each group of 3 which will play the ‘D-Finals”, while the remaining 4 teams will play for bronze and consolation.

    Points are awarded as follows:
ALL games will be 3pts for a win, 1pt for tie, and 0 for a loss.
All Forfeits = 0 Please report all FORFEITS to the league rep.
Skips/Vices are responsible for recording the win/loss/tie on the CVCC website following conclusion of the game.

    5th/6th NAMED TEAM MEMBER
Teams may identify a 5th and 6th team member once the team has four paid-in-full members.
The named 5th and 6th team member can be anyone that has paid club fees – this includes someone that has paid spare fees only, excludes a social membership.
The named 5th and 6th team member can play any position.
The named 5th and 6th team member CANNOT be a member of another team in this league..
    SPARING
Everyone who has already registered for a league or joined as a "Spare Member" can spare in this league. "Youth Members" must be 14 or older to spare in this league.
You can use up to 2 or 3 spares as long as one of your regular team members is in the lineup.  Spares must be same sex as the person they are replacing or female.  A spare must throw the same (or lower) rocks than the player they are replacing with exception a spare CANNOT throw skip’s rocks. If you are normally a 3 person team, you may use up to 2 spares, but no more than 3 players total playing.
Spares cannot be used by a team until the team has four paid-in-full members
Teams looking for a spare should refer to the spares list at https://cityviewcurling.ca/index.php/member-s-home/league-information/sub-lists

    Awards

The top team in Group A after R2W7 will be awarded the “Season trophy” for best record for the season (it’s currently 2:30am and I can’t find the list of what the trophy names are).

Trophies will also be handed out to A/B/C/D winners, as well as recognition (and a small prizes) to the finalists and bronze medal winners.

    Byes

You can request a BYE for any week, and you can request as many as you like (and I highly recommend you prioritize which BYE is more important and rank them, see below). BYES will be assigned by priority order and then first come first serve.

When you request a BYE, and it’s your first one requested, you’ll be given a “1” priority. This is to ensure that all teams have at least some equality when asking for BYES. Then, for specific weeks, it is a first-come-first serve basis which is denoted by a letter.

Example, a team that has asked for their 3rd BYE request, and they are the second team to ask for a BYE for that week will be designated “3B” for that week. The lower number gets priority, then followed by letter.

All teams are guaranteed two BYES for the season, with 4 teams getting three.

The reasoning for this method is to handle the influx of teams that maybe asking for time off to go to the Scotties Tournament in Mississauga on January 24 and January 31. You can list all the BYES you like for season and then prioritize / rank them to ensure that you’re most valuable date is met (if possible).

    BELL RULE
The bell signals to finish the end you are in! No extra ends or tie breakers.

An end is deemed to have completed once the two teams agree on the score for that end. If this occurs before the bell sounds, you may begin another end. Use the countdown clock on the far end of the ice to keep track of your remaining time until the bell.
The bell in the 3:00 pm draw will go off at 4:50pm. The bell in the 5:15pm draw will go off at 7:05pm. The bell in the 7:30pm draw will go off at 9:20pm.

    FUNDRAISING

The Saturday Mixed league uses a 50/50 draw to fund the year end BBQ, league prizes/awards, or support the club.

    1. Starting in the 2025-2026 season, the fundraising for the 50/50 draw will be cashles.
    2. Every week, a list of all of the league members will be circulated after each draw.  The losing team on Sheet 1 (or sheet 2 if sheet 1 is not in use) is responsible for administering the list and collecting 50/50 money for their draw using the handheld Point of Sale terminal.
    3. The cost to participate in the 50/50 draw each week is $5.  $2.50 goes into the pot the week, $2.50 goes to the league to help finance our year-end banquet / trophies / prizes.
    4. After paying your entry fee for the week using the handheld Point of Sale terminal, your name will be checked off the list of Saturday Mixed players for the week.  Please ensure that your name gets checked off after paying your entry fee.  If your name is drawn and your name has not been checked off on the master list, you will not be awarded the pot.
    5. Spares / non-league members can participate in the draw by paying their entry fee and having their name handwritten onto the list of participants for the week.
    6. You can have someone else pay on your behalf if you are not at the club that week.
    7. Once a week, a name will be randomly drawn from amongst all of the curlers who are registered for Saturday Mixed.
    8. If your name is drawn and you paid your entry that week, you win 50% of the total pot. The funds will be e-transfered to you.
    9. If your name is drawn and you did NOT pay for an entry that week, the pot will carry over to the following week and will continue to grow every week thereafter until the pot is won.
    10. Only the league coordinators may conduct the draw of the winning name on any given week.  The draw will occur in front of witnesses at the club.  The draw may occur anytime between Saturday at 9pm and the following Saturday at noon. The winner’s name will be posted as part of the weekly update email.
    11. You may pay your 50/50 entry fees in advance by paying $5 for each week remaining in the draw.

    LEAGUE SETUP
Friday Mixed League is divided into four divisions of seven teams. Initial ranking of teams is based on the divisions of last season. New teams to the league start in D Division regardless of skill level. Teams with at least two returning members are given the same spot of the previous season. At the end of each draw, teams are moved based on divisional standings.

Points are awarded based on the following:

    'A' Division games: 5 points for a win, 2.5 points for a tie, 0 for a loss;
    'B' Division games: 4 points for a win, 2 points for a tie, 0 for a loss;
    'C' Division games: 3 points for a win, 1.5 points for a tie, 0 for a loss.
    'D' Division games: 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, 0 for a loss.

Skips/Vices are responsible for recording the win/loss/tie on the CVCC website following conclusion of the game.

At the end of the draw, the top team in Divisions B, C and D will move up to A, B and C respectively and the bottom team from A, B and C will drop to B, C and D respectively. Standings are based on total points accumulated for that draw.

Wild card scenario: If at the end of the draw, the bottom 2 teams in the higher division have fewer points than the top 2 teams of the immediate lower division, the 2 bottom teams from the higher division will be moved to the lower division and the top 2 teams of the lower division will be moved to the higher division.

During the season, when teams are tied for points, the tiebreaker will be as follows:

    • Total Wins
    • Head to Head match up for most recent draw between teams that are tied
    • Results from the draw to the button from the beginning of the season

In the event of a tie to determine division champions, the final draw standings will be used as the first method to break the tie. If the teams are still tied, then the above methods will be used.

    GENERAL ETIQUETTE:

Please remember to be respectful on the ice when curling. Touch brooms, offer "Good Curling" and introduce yourselves if necessary. During the game, stop moving and be quiet when the opponent is delivering his/her rocks. Please walk single file down the side of the ice and don’t block the thrower's view. Be in the hack and ready to throw your rock as soon as your opponent's rock has been released. Please ensure you give the opposing sweepers plenty of room when waiting for your team to throw your rocks.

Do not rest your hands or knees on the ice. Only the third and skip should be behind the house. The second and lead should stand at the hog line. At the end of each end, only the thirds should be in the house to decide the score at which point rocks may be removed. After the game, shake hands and offer "good game." The winning team offers to buy the losing team their drinks (skip for skip, third for third, etc.). Losing team please reciprocate.

No verbal abuse will be tolerated. Please treat ALL members (especially your spouses) with respect.

    GEAR:

Shoes, sliders and grippers should be kept up-to-date. Some gear such as grippers show wear and tear after a while and can leave dirt on the ice which affects play (e.g. picks). There is a machine at the entrance to the ice where you can clean the bottom of your shoes each time you go out onto the ice. Each member should have their own broom, slider and/or stabilizer.

    LEAGUE SETUP
The format is the same as the Tuesday and Wednesday Evening Open leagues.

Thursday Evening Open will have 20 teams. There will be 5 draws (periods of 5 weeks each with reshuffling of teams using total points to date).

Draw #1 will be a seeding draw. Teams will be into 4 pools of 5 teams, split based on last year's standings.

Following completion of the each draw, teams will be ranked by total season points earned to date. The top 10 teams will be in the A Division and divided into 2 pools of 5 teams, approximately split based on the standings to date (some adjustments are made to accommodate bye requests and to ensure teams can play a variety of opposing teams). The bottom 10 teams will be B Division and divided in the same manner as the A division.

In Draw # 5, teams will be ranked by points earned to date and split into 4 divisions (i.e., teams ranked 1-5 will play in the A Division, 6-10 in B Division, 11-15 in C Division, and 16-20 in D Division).

Ties in the standings will be broken by head to head in the standings so far with a team in a higher division getting the advantage. When tied teams have not played each other, ties will be broken by random draw.

Points for the leagues will be as follows:
    Division A               Win=9, Loss=3, Tie=6
    Division B               Win=7, Loss=1, Tie=4
